Sound Effects: Point Break

We were asked to add in sound effects and/or background music to a chase scene from the film Point Break. This was given to us through different clips in a folder. I didn't manage to finish the video completely, (as seen by missing car beeps, water splashes etc.) but I was pleased with what I learnt today. 



One of the things I learnt was the power of offscreen noises. In creating something that seems probable to be there, the feeling of a larger presence nearby in the scene will cause a dramatic impact on the audience. Tension and heightened emotions can be conquered up by pure assumption. 


I also learnt that the overlapping of sounds can come across just as powerful as the lack of it.  In the moment when the two were shot in close up, I diluted the background music and added in the sound of heartbeats which I thought gave a massive contrast to the rest of the scene.
