Scene 1 - US Urban City
- 90s
- Polluted - buildings look dim
- Rainy - dirty, musty, dark
- Diegetic sounds - honking, siren (crime is the reason Mills sought to be assigned)
- The real world - not hiding anything, verisimilitude
- Bars on all windows - isolation and apathy
- Aggression - Mills gets bumped into but no one flinches or apologises
Scene 2 - Somerset's Flat
- Classy - antique furniture
- Neat
- Lives alone - no family
- Knife - protection? Violence? Dangerous place, connotation of crime
- Diegetic sounds - voices, siren, traffic, amplifies noises of actions
Car honking and sirens outside contradicts the stillness inside his apartment. Sounds are all diegetic to convey verisimilitude. Somerset lives alone, unmarried, with a place coldly lit and undecorated.
